The Cathar Trail
The Cathar Trail takes its name from a religious group who lived in this area of southern France in the medieval era. The trail meanders through some of the villages and towns in which they lived including Foix, Tuchan and Quillan.

The walk covers a delightfully pleasant route, offering stunning views of an unblemished landscape and the opportunity to visit an array of castles in various states of repair, including amongst many others Queribus, Peyrepetuse and the amazingly breathtaking Montségur which is just a short drive from Coufet. Climb to the top of the derelict castle and learn about the tragic fate of the Cathars.
