Having been an inspirational source for the creative set for many years, the charming Catalan harbour of Collioure has on many occasion formed the focal point for works by Picasso, Matisse, and Chagall. Now known as the ‘City of Painters’, this town has no less than thirty art galleries. Don’t miss the sombre Easter parades, the torchlight processions that mark the day of St John in June and the festival of St Vincent, the town’s patron saint, in July which is marked by a spectacular firework display.
